If you're in need of some storytelling inspiration you might like my pod. It's a basic and informal, but pretty thoughtful and insightful collection of my thoughts and ideas from studying the world's top communicators.
I've had the pleasure of working with some amazing storytellers throughout my career, and these short pods are my attempt to package some of the advice and inspiration I've picked up along the way, and to pass it onto you.
Each episode is only around 10 minutes long for a couple of reasons:
There's enough amazing content already out there I don't want to keep you from it.
As part of my training for Climate Reality Corps a few years ago, former-VP Al Gore taught me how to give his 3-hour slide show presentation in 10 minutes. He calls it "the truth in 10".
He challenged me, "Why take an hour to share your story if you can get the job done in ten minutes?" 🤷🏻♂️
Good advice.
It's like Einstein once said, "If you can't explain it simply you don't understand it well enough."
Also wise words.
Check it out. Hopefully you'll find some useful stuff in these first few episodes:
TRUTH IN TEN: The story behind Al Gore's 10-minute slide show.
THE HILL WE CLIMB: How do you turn a presentation into a performance with Amanda Gorman.
4 WORDS & 5 LINES: JFK & how to give speeches which change the world.
THE ARC OF JUSTICE: Why do great stories do six things, featuring Bryan Stevenson
AI: Intermission - having a bit of fun being interviewed by AI
SESAME ST: The whitepaper which revolutionised TV with Joan Ganz-Cooney.
STAY HUNGRY. STAY FOOLISH: A few lessons from SJ.
THE "50-25-25 RULE": How the best speechwriters get things done.
HEATING & LIGHTING: How one of the best opinion writers wins hearts & minds.
CONDUCTING AUDIENCES: "Engaging" audiences vs "Moving" them.
NO ONE IS TOO SMALL TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE: Greta's story.
Just a bit of fun. I hope you enjoy it.
